Can I use FFF for writing other than fan fiction?
Not at this time, but we have good news! We will be releasing another version of FanFicFan just for creative writing--fiction, non-fiction, poetry, etc. Keep checking back here for more information! We have it running at ABetterPlacetoWrite.com. Later in 2008, we'll make it available to everyone!
Are there limitations on rating or types of writing?
No, but please do not post anything illegal. Anyone who infringes upon another's copyright will lose their privileges to use FFF.
Can I change my fan fiction site's color/theme?
You bet! Our hosted version provides site owners the ability to customize their Fan Fiction's colors, fonts, etc. very easily. Site owners can customize their Fan FIction site's CSS (Cascaded Style Sheet) to fit their needs. Site owners that download and install the software on their own servers have full control of not only their site's CSS, but also the templates. You can reference the features, limitations, and differences of each version on the features page.
I use ads on my site, what are your requirements and policies?
Because we have ad placement within the Fan Fiction pages, you must not use any Google or Yahoo ads in the html that you provide for your custom layout.
What do I need to get started?
If you choose to use the FFF Hosted version, all you need is to register, login, and sign up!
If you choose the You Host It Version, then you acknowledge that you meet all requirements and can manage the install, maintenance, and support of your own installation of FFF. All you need is to register, login, and select to download the software. This will still require you to sign up for the software, which will create for you a required license file.
I have my own domain, what can I do to point my domain to my FFF site?
To Set Up a C NAME DNS Record (allows you to use fanfiction.yourname.com without redirecting to fanfiction.myfandoms.com:
- A CNAME Record creates a pointer from a name to an alias name. i.e. You may wish to have the name fanfiction.yourname.com point to fanfiction.myfandoms.com. To do this create a CNAME record from fanfiction.yourname.com to fanfiction.myfandoms.com. This allows you to refer to already named machines without having to worry about IP addresses.
- If you have direct access to your DNS configuration, simply add a CNAME
record that looks like:
fanfiction IN CNAME fanfiction.myfandoms.com.
- If you do not have direct access to your DNS configuration, contact your web site host provider and request that they create the C NAME DNS record for you.

To Forward a Domain in the Domain Control Center:
Forwarding a domain name enables you to direct incoming traffic from a parked domain to an existing Web site. When someone attempts to access your forwarded domain, their Web browser automatically redirects them to the specified Web site.
- Please copy the URL for the fan site you created on FanFicFan. This can be found in your list of Sites you want to forward your domain name to. At the very top of FanFicFan click Manage My FanFicFan
Click SITE DETAILS AND OPTIONS for your site in the list of sites
From the details, select and copy the url for your site
- Log in to your Godaddy Account Manager.
- From the Domain Names menu, select Manage Domains.
- The Domain Control Center opens.
- In your list of domain names, click the domain name you want to forward.
If you checked the checkbox instead of clicking on the domain, click the forward icon
- To create the forward, select Enable and enter the URL of the site you have created on FanFicFan
(see Step 1, above, to find your URL if you did not yet copy it).
You must also specify which Redirect Type you want to use. Select 301 Moved Permanently
- Click OK.
- A confirmation screen may appear. If it does, click OK.
That's it! You have now set up Forwarding . Please give GoDaddy a few minutes to process your changes. Shortly, your fan site will now appear in browsers under your own domain name.
I'm using IE 6+ and I see the 
icon at the bottom of my browser. What do I do?
If you are using Internet Explorer 6 or above and you see the icon at the bottom of your browser's status bar, then your current security settings are preventing the FFF site your are browsing from setting a necessary session cookie.
Don't worry! there is a very simple action you can take to allow us to write this important session cookie without you having to change your security settings. We understand, value, and share your privacy and security concerns!
here is what to do:
- In Internet Explorer, click on the Tools menu
- In the dropdown, click on the Internet Options... menu item
- Click on the Privacy tab. You will see:
- Click on the Sites... button. You will see:
- Next, just type in http://fanfiction.myfandoms.com in the "Address of Web Site:" field
- Click the Allow button
- Click the Ok button
- Click the Ok button on the Privacy tab dialog window
- Once you have completed the above steps, you can revisit the FFF site
Can I modify any of the core functionality (modify code)?
No. The FFF Fan Fiction software has been encoded using Zend Guard™.
